Microsoft Edge's Sleeping Tabs Reduce 1.38 Billion Tabs to Reduce Memory Stress. - Bayar Hutang

Who hasn't heard of the amazing sleeping tabs function that Microsoft offers on its Microsoft Edge Chromium browser?

Since Microsoft Edge 105, the sleeping tabs function has been available. It temporarily halts the operation of the tab that the user is not currently using to reduce memory strain, allowing users to open additional tabs without worrying about RAM running out.

According to the Microsoft official page, this function at least contributed to reducing the RAM load in September 2022, and at least 1.38 billion tabs had been successfully configured to do so.

The average sleeping tab function reduces memory usage by 83% of the total tabs without affecting or slowing down the speed of Microsoft Edge Chromium, which is obviously a remarkable achievement.

And what's even more intriguing is that it appears that Microsoft has been observing Microsoft Edge user activity through sleeping tabs to track and detect how the browser is functioning in order to create the statistical figures above. Of course, this is not a problem because after all the data taken may be used for other purposes.
